Bertram Pitt received his MD degree from the University of Basel in 1959. After a residency in medicine he worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical research Institute from 1963-1966. He completed a fellowship in cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and remained there on the faculty until 1977 when he joined the University Of Michigan School Of Medicine as director of the division of cardiology. He is currently professor of medicine emeritus, has published over 750 peer reviewed papers, and received life time achievement awards from the AHA and ESC-HF society

Warren J. Wexelman, MD, or as he is also known, “The Rockdoc”, is a life-long Brooklynite and has been a practicing cardiologist in Brooklyn for over 30 years. At Maimonides Medical Center he served as Associate Chief Medical Officer, Director of Clinical Therapeutics, and Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for 23 years. He was also the Founding Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation & Exercise Program. Dr. Wexelman is presently on the faculty of the NYU Langone School of Medicine, and the President of the American Heart Association in Brooklyn. Warren has extensive media experience with numerous appearances on CNN and Good Day NY, NBC and was a regular guest on The Fox series, “Fox on Health”. Warren’s critically acclaimed radio show “Second Opinion” aired in New York City 1999-2001. In February of 2018, Dr. Wexelman teamed up with Bob Harper, the celebrity fitness guru who had suffered sudden cardiac death and a major heart attack while exercising the gym,for a national media tour. Prof. Dr. Julinda Mehilli was the first chief physician at the LAKUMED clinics to head the clinic for cardiology, pulmonology and internal intensive care medicine at the Landshut-Achdorf hospital. Prof. Dr. Mehilli is a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology and most recently worked as senior consultant in interventional cardiology at the German Heart Center and at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. With more than 6,000 coronary interventions and more than 2,000 catheter-assisted valve interventions, Prof. Dr. Mehilli among the most experienced interventionalists in Germany. In the period from 2001 to 2012, Prof. Dr. In addition to her clinical work, Mehilli managed to help set up and manage the world-renowned interventional ISAResearch center (clinical research group in the field of interventional cardiology). The center was in charge of the planning, implementation and publication of more than 50 important patient-oriented clinical studies, all of which were published in well-known journals. Dr. Marco De Carlo received the degree in Cardiology and a doctorate in Cardiopulmonary Pathophysiology at the University of Pisa, Italy. Since 2006, He work as a vice-director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Professor at the School of Specialization in Cardiology of Pisa University. He is the author of 170 scientific papers, with >10,000 citations and an h index of 39. His main areas of interest include coronary interventions, transcatheter valvular interventions, and peripheral artery disease. He was the Chairperson of the Working Group on Aorta and Peripheral Vascular of the ESC for the term 2016-2018.

He is active in clinical research in particular in the fields of the interventional treatment of coronary artery disease (acute coronary syndromes), carotid and peripheral artery disease, and valvular heartdisease (transcatheter aortic and mitral valve interventions). He has had Academic appointments at University of Southern California, Laurentian University, University of Toronto, University of Ottawa and The Aga Khan University in Pakistan where he was Professor of Medicine. He was the first Head of the Tertiary Cardiology program at AKU, which he established and led. He assisted the planning of the AKU East Africa Cardiac Program in Kenya. He developed and authored the Strategic plan for that program in 2002. Previous to that he established the Nuclear Cardiology program at Lancaster California. He was Head of NE Ontario Cardiovascular Program, where he established Nuclear Cardiology, Pacemaker and Rehabilitation units. He established the new Cardiac Catheterization Program in Peterborough, Ontario.. Started the Echocardiography lab at Aga khan Hospital Daressalaam. He has served on several Boards as Executive Member and Chairman. Authored many peer-reviewed publications and participated in many clinical trials.

Michiaki Nagai has completed his graduation from the Jichi Medical University School of Medicine and has been engaged in the Cardiovascular Medicine. Using volumetric analysis in MR SPGR imaging, he has been investigating the fields for target hypertensive organ damages including the relationships among hypertension, blood pressure variability, brain atrophy, cognitive impairment and central autonomic nervous system including the insular cortex. He was engaged in the Interventional Cardiology at Hiroshima City Asa Hospital as the Vice Director. He won the Japanese Society of Hypertension Award in the International Society of Hypertension 2006, the Young Investigator’s Award in the 8th Japanese Neurocardiology Workshop 2007 and Young Scientist Award in the second annual scientific forum of clinical hypertension of the Japanese Society of Hypertension 2013.

Frank J. Veith, Professor of Surgery, NYU and the Cleveland Clinic and Liebig Chair in Vascular Surgery. Dr. Veith graduated from Cornell University Medical College with Honors before completing his surgical residency training at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Thereafter, he achieved success with his pioneering work in experimental and clinical lung transplantation. In the 70s and 80s, his attention turned toward Vascular Surgery with an emphasis on lower extremity revascularization procedures, many of which he innovated. He was the first to advocate an aggressive approach to saving limbs threatened by arteriosclerosis and gangrene when most patients with this problem were being treated by a major amputation. He and his group were recognized as world leaders in this field and had more than 300 published articles related to it. In the early 1990s, Dr. Veith, long an advocate of endovascular treatments, became involved with endovascular grafts, using them for a variety of vascular lesions. Many of these procedures he and his associates performed were “firsts”. His group was the first to perform an endovascular graft repair of an AAA or EVAR in the US. They also performed the first EVAR for a ruptured AAA. In 1995 he was elected President of the Society for Vascular Surgery and was a major force promoting the endovascular treatment of many vascular diseases. Dr. Veith held positions as Chief of Vascular Surgery and Chairman of Surgery at Montefiore Hospital - Albert Einstein College of Medicine for many years. He was also The William J. von Liebig Chair in Vascular Surgery. In 2006, Dr. Veith was appointed to his present positions at New York University and the Cleveland Clinic. He has received numerous awards and honors as a leader, outstanding teacher and innovator in Vascular Surgery. He chairs the largest Vascular meeting, the VEITH symposium, held annually in New York City and now in its 43rd year. In 2010, Dr. Veith received the SVS Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2013 an endowed chair, the Frank J. Veith Chair in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, was established at Langone New York University Medical Center. In 2016 Dr. Veith will be honored to receive the ISET Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr Mari Aparici, MD is an Associate Professor in Residence at UCSF. She is a Nuclear Physician with residencies in both Europe (Barcelona) and US (Stanford), and with Molecular imaging fellowships from Stanford University. Professor Tadeusz Malinski, Ph.D.; Dr.h.c.m. is the Marvin & Ann Dilley White Chair and Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Ohio University. His research is interdisciplinary in the areas of biochemistry, biotechnology, nanomedicine. He was first in the world to measure, with nanosensors, nitric oxide concentration in single cells and neurons. His ground-breaking discovery of the regulatory role of nitric oxide in the beating heart and the mechanism of dysfunction of nitric oxide synthase are historical contributions to world science. The dysfunction of nitric oxide synthase is a common denominator of several diseases of modern civilization heart failure, hypertension, diabetes, atherosclerosis, aging, obesity and stroke. Professor Malinski’s work appears in nearly 400 publications. He has received approximately 35 Awards and Distinctions among others: International Academy of Cardiology Aaward, Maria Curie Award in Biochemistry, and the Grand Gold Medal in Medicine from the Society of Arts, Sciences and Lettres.
